This Austin Healey 3000 was our largest project. The modification list of the car is extensive. For instance; a completely new built engine, new reinforced chassis with a wall thickness of 2.0 mm, new (DWM) divided separately adjustable steering box with separately adjustable outer track rods, camber and castor. The list goes on and on, read all about it.
Completely new built engine, with hereby we only used the standard cylinder block.
This engine was built with the purpose of high torque in a wide speed range.
For this, the standard crankshaft is replaced with a steel crankshaft (DWM), in combination with a steel flywheel and competition crankshaft pulley damper.
These are together completely balanced with the clutch.
The standard connecting rods are replaced with forged steel connecting rods, combined with forged high compression pistons.
The cylinder block is provided with pockets in order to allow a higher valve lift.
The standard cast iron cylinder head has been replaced by an aluminum cylinder head (DWM). The inlet and outlet ports of the cylinder head are extra processed for a better flow effect.
The camshaft is replaced by a version with a torque cut profile.
For the valve actuator has been chosen for competition cam followers in combination with aluminum roller rockers, for the benefit of a higher valve lift, and less mechanical resistance. The camshaft timing is externally adjustable by means of a removable plate in the distribution lid.
By making use of the steel crankshaft, the crank shaft seal in the back is replaced with a closed oil seal. The standard steel oil pan is replaced with an aluminum version featuring an extra oil sling plate to prevent loss of oil pressure in long continuous curves.
The oil pump is replaced by a competition pump with higher yields.
The standard valve cover has been replaced by an aluminum cylinder head cover (DWM) for the application of the roller rocker kit to make possible, and to have a better oil seal to effect. Also, the side sealing lids of the cam followers have been replaced for aluminum ones.
For crankcase ventilation there is a catch tank fitted with external filter. The standard filter is replaced for a spin-off filter conversion.
The steel back plate of the motor is replaced for an aluminum one for the purpose of weight savings.
The radiator is replaced with an aluminum radiator with extra cooling capacity and the cooling system is filled with Evans coolant, also the standard cooling fan has been replaced by a plastic 5 fan cooling blade.
The coolant hoses are replaced with silicone hoses equipped with HD stainless steel hose clamps.
For the ignition there has been chosen for a dual Mallory inflammation point, in combination with a Bosch coil with heatsink. The ignition capacitor is replaced for an improved and more reliable performance (DWR).For the carburation is chosen for 3 HIF44 carburators in combination with a cold air box. The standard throttle linkage is replaced for a double throttle cable control.
The fuel supply effected by two Facet fuel pumps, which are separated from each other to be switched and have an own fuel filter.
The fuel tank is made of aluminum and foam filled with FIA approval.
The fuel lines are made of Goodridge hard line with FIA approval. There is also a fuel return line mounted in order to prevent vapor lock.
For this purpose also the exhaust manifolds and the heat shield are treated with a special ceramic coating. Both exhaust manifolds feature a Lambda probe and meter.
Center shift gearbox with straight Tulip ratio gear set.
Gearbox in combination with a 22% competition overdrive.
Transmission to the rear axle via a High Deflection (weighted and balanced)
drive shaft. The rear axle is equipped with a Quaife limited slip differential with a transmission ratio of 3.9: 1.
Furthermore, the two half shaft’s are replaced for the Uprated version of DWM.
Chassis / Body
New reinforced chassis with a wall thickness of 2.0 mm.
On the chassis additional reinforcements are provided at the mounting points of the wishbone’s from the front suspension and also at the mounting points of the engine mounts.
Further, the inner body is fully welded to the chassis, to provide more stiffness.
Under the chassis is an aluminum plate mounted for extra rigidity, and protection of the engine.
Furthermore, all the normal steel sheet metal replacement carried out for aluminum plates (doors, front- and rear wings). Also, the front wings are provided with airvents in Works style. The bonnet is also been replaced for a aluminum one with louvres to provide additional cooling. The tailgate is replaced with an aluminum tailgate in Works style, it provides the ability to carry two spare wheels.
Suspension / Steering
New (DWM) divided separately adjustable steering box with separately adjustable outer track rods, camber and castor.
New wishbones, top trunions and stub axle’s featured with needle bearings.
Weighted springs in combination with a reinforced anti-roll bar.
Telescopic shock absorbers front and rear (adjustable).
Heavy duty rear springs in combination with tramp bar and stabilizer bar.
Also, a heavy design panhard rod.
Furthermore, all mounting rubbers are replaced by poly bushes.
Separate brake system (front / rear).
Infinitely adjustable brake balance between front and rear brakes, balanced bar between the two cylinders, adjustable from inside the car. Brake servo on the front brakes.
Front Brakes Type 16 as also used on the BJ8.
At the rear is a disc brake version set of DWM mounted.
The front and rear brake calipers are equipped with Ferodo fast road / rally pads.
The parking brake is controlled by a in-line mounted brake cylinder.
All brake lines are made of Goodridge flexible brake line with Teflon coating.
The car features a custom made harness which uses the Lucas color coding.
For the connectors super seal plugs are used.
All major consumers such as lights, wiper motor, petrol pumps etc. are means
relay switches and are separately secured, with the purpose to keep the main power cables to the consumers as short as possible and to keep the wiring harness as compact as possible.
This also prevents the load on the switches becomes too big and it also prevents the emergence of a large magnetic field behind the dashboard.
The switches of the high beam and overdrive pass through the piezo switches mounted on the steering wheel.
The fuses and relay boxes for the lights are located right in the engine compartment. All
other fuses are in the right footwell and the associated relays are placed directly above.
Both fuse boxes are equipped with an indication system for blown fuse via LED indication.
For safety there is a Car Tek electronic immobilizer fitted with an engine kill position.
For the charging current is chosen for a Lucas alternator(DWR).
In the engine compartment, trunk and under the dashboard there are 12 V sockets mounted.
The car is fitted with a Peltor intercom set whose operation is built-in on the dashboard.
The connections for the head sets are located in the Roll Bar.
In addition to standard lighting, there are several adjustments done.
The standard headlights were replaced with H4 units 100/80W lamps.
Furthermore, there are Cibié bright lights mounted on the front provide with 130W H1 lamps.
There are also Marchal fog lights (works style) mounted on the shroud.
At the rear there is a reversing lamp mounted, it is operated via a switch on the gearbox but can, if desired, also be operated manually.
For safety there are LED brake lights installed in the reflectors on the rear shroud and there is a third brake light (also implemented in LEDs) mounted in the Roll Bar.
Both the fuse boxes in the vehicle and the trunk are equipped with lighting activated when opened.
The lighting of the instruments which may be replaced by LED lights for a better yield.
Also fitted with a LED lighting map reading lamp.
In addition to standard dash, we designed a new dash with rally equipment and LED instrument light's, the switch for OD and Beam light is on the steering wheel.
